Her directorial narrative debut, Slip, was acquired by DEDZA/Kino Lorber, as part of a collection highlighting emerging and underrepresented directors. Slip was featured on the Criterion Channel from 2021-24. Otero’s next film, When There Was Water, premiered at BAM in New York. She is a recipient of the 2022 NALIP Latino Lens grant for her latest film Wait For Night.&nbsp;She is currently in development on her upcoming feature debut. Otero received a 2023 California Arts Council’s Emerging Artist grant. In 2024, she was a recipient of a MacDowell Artist Fellowship, a DiTrapano Foundation for Literature &amp; the Arts Residency, and The Creative Residency at Bloedel Reserve. With a practice that spans writing, directing and editing, Otero is interested in a haptic cinema. Through an emphasis on sound and perspective, she is searching for embodied experiences in film.&nbsp; In addition to her work as a director, Otero edited the feature films&nbsp;The African Desperate and The Ballad of Suzanne Césaire. She has edited several films for major museum exhibitions, including MoMA, The Whitney, The MET, the Hammer Museum, and more.
